On the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, 2025, the SAIL, Bhilai Steel Plant, Town Services,Public Health Department and Enforcement Department organized an environmental awareness program. The program was held at 8:30 am near the English and country liquor shop at Civic Center.
The program’s chief guests included Dr. Anita Sawant, Regional Officer, Chhattisgarh State Pollution Conservation Board, Durg; Utpal Dutta, CGM (TA and CSR);  N.K. Banchhor, SEFI Chairman and OA President; and  Parvinder Singh, OA General Secretary. The speakers shared their thoughts and discussed the importance of environmental protection. Dr. Anita Sawant, the main speaker, elaborated on the pollution caused by plastic use and informed about the ban on single-use plastic. She highlighted the adverse effects of plastic use on land, water, air, and human health and emphasized the need to avoid using plastic.

On this occasion,  Utpal Dutta, Chief General Manager, emphasized the theme of completely stopping the use of single-use plastic this year.  Narendra Kumar, President of the Officers’ Association, said that the work done this time should be improved upon next time so that there is no need to repeat it. He emphasized the need to raise awareness about stopping the use of single-use plastic.
The program was organized near the English and country liquor shop at Civic Center, Bhilai where single-use plastic items like water pouches, plastic glasses, plastic bags, and water bottles were being sold in large numbers and were scattered all around. These were removed by the sanitation workers.
The program aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and cleanliness. Present were Prasant Tiwari GM(PR), Milind Kumar Bansod, Dy. Manager, Devanand Chouhan, Asstt. Manager, Mukund Das Manikpuri, Asstt. Manager, Inspectors Sarat, Nagraju, Gopal Krishna verma, Subhash Chandra Maharana, vidya chatan lahre, prakash, Srikant, Qutubudin Qureshi, Ramamurthy, Balram Shukla, Neeraj Bali, Ram, Bhagwan and around 350 people attended the program, including sanitation workers, supervisors, and other officials from the Public Health Department and Enforcement Department. The program was conducted by  K.K. Yadav, General Manager of Public Health, and the vote of thanks was given by Raghavendra Garg, Deputy General Manager.
